Hymns to the Night

Inspired by the book by the Romantic poet Novalis (1772-1801), Hymns to the Night is a series of photographic collages that explore the night as a space for spiritual transformation, a bridge to the eternal and the abstract. This set of monochromatic images, created using advanced digital editing techniques, transforms traditional night scenes into surreal compositions that reveal a symbolic, emotional, and conceptual dimension. The night, understood not only as the absence of day, becomes a state of the soul; a place of introspection, love beyond death, and connection with a transcendent entity.

The series plays with multiple photographic exposures of desolate landscapes, rivers, and archetypal elements such as antlers, tombs, cages, crescent moons, and figures dressed in Victorian costumes. These compositions, laden with symbolism and mystery, challenge conventional photographic perceptions and construct a visual narrative that connects the dreamlike with the mythological. The images evoke fragments of a collective dream and ancient rites that confront the viewer with the duality of life and death, light and shadow, reality and myth.

In a world where mythology is constantly dissolving, this series reaffirms the importance of imaginary construction as a refuge and vehicle for artistic expression. Photography, like the night itself, bears witness to the relentless dissolution of time and life. In this act of nocturnal withdrawal, it transports us from the unfathomable immensity of the world to the most intimate depths of our being, creating a visually rich and conceptually complex space that allows the viewer to contemplate the flow of time from a transcendental perspective.
